The Pagan
July 16, 2013

I kept walking. The hours had long since blurred together and robbed me of any real sense of time. A cold wind whipped out of the ever present shadows, but it's wasn't a temperature cold, this cold chilled the soul. It blew through you like a bitter wind and stole light and warmth from the spirit. I was low on both and feeling pretty numb. The uneven and jagged ground cut and tore at my feet with each step I took. I had started off with sandals, but they had long since broken and fallen away. The very shadows we walked on seemed to soak up the blood. The hem of my pants were also tattered and bloody from the trip. Wyrd sat on my shoulder, hunched with me against the wind. In my arms I cradled a backpack where Ollie slept. I had felt guilty laying the sleep command on him, but I figured we wouldn't be followed here, and as long as I kept him shielded, he wouldn't be harmed. I had brought food in another pack on my back, but couldn't manage to stomach the thought of actually eating it. Hunger turned to a gnawing pain, which slipped away into a numbness. I was so tired my body felt dizzy from my head to my toes, but even fatigue was failing to keep me still. I kept walking.

I tried not to think about how foolish I had been. I had confided in Cam. He chalked up my thoughts and lack of trust in Hailie up to the fact that I never had parents. All that said and done. Davis was now a motley member. Even though he was a dreamer, he caused paradox. Davis had no issue telling me my magic was impossible. The mere thought brought a dirty and metallic tang to my lips. Last time he said that I had coughed up shards of blue and purple crystal. Cam put me on the side lines. LG couldn't deal with the fact I didn't like Hailie. Justin left, but not before they slipped and told me what happened. I never meant to steal your half of our avitar. Everyone had known but me. Our goodbyes weren't as warm, but then he wasn't my Justin anymore. I promised him I wouldn't kill myself, but if something here ate me after I returned Ollie, well it happens.

Even with all that we managed to pull off the high ritual. We cured the Rapsody. We created a happy ending where it was never possible. London's court was coming to celebrate. I had gone to tell Erro we sucessed. We got in a fight instead. I wonder if he noticed when he told me to, "get out, I don't have time for your childish issues," that the threads of our oath had snapped. I didn't think so. Logan was set as my second, and he had helped with the ritual. I left all our notes. All he needed was another dream speaker. There was even one in town. I flinched as I remembered the last time I saw my teacher. The look of disgust and rage on his face as he slammed to the front door to my house. That's what I get for keeping vamps in my basement. How many hundreds of foster parents, social workers, adults, parents, and other kids had looked at me with that expression. Each one silently screaming the same message. You're worthless. You don't deserve to be loved or cared for. You disgust me. I hate you.

"Damn it Caden! Can't you see I love you." Maya's tearful words during our last fight. My eyes burned and my throat choked. No Maya, dear sweet Maya, you loved the girl who grew up with you, who learned to laugh and threw away her past. I wish I was that girl, not just the shell that looks like her. It was a nice lie, one that I wanted to believe too. Sol. Just thinking his name still tore a small cry from my parched and cracked lips. I never deserved you. I knew so little about you. But how could I learn you past when I couldn't offer my own. The banality would have killed you. You love Maya and she loves you. Be happy without me, I'm sorry I made you both so miserable at best. Even after all that they came after me.

I felt Orian looking at me and I had screamed for her to leave me alone. She had of course teleported in. She even offered to come with me when she warned me she wasn't alone in the shadow lands. I told her if she really cared, she's leave me alone. She looked like I had slapped her. Part of me hopes she didn't think I was mad at her, I was just saving her from the world's largest disappointment. I'm sure she remembers that though. I kept walking.

Crixus and Vago walked along side, my mostly silent companions. Crixus had tried to talk me out of my body so I wouldn't have to deal with it. I almost said yes, then Vago punched him in the back of the head and told him to leave me alone. Crixus lapsed into silence, only occasionally making an off hand comment. I was so tired I was weaving on my feet. I reinforced the shield around Ollie. Sometimes I would trip and stumble. Vago occasionally reached out a hand to catch me. I would role out of his grip and sprawl, but never squishing Ollie. Vago stopped reaching for me, instead he coaxed me with gentle words. I was too numb to appreciate. That is how we arrived in Tokyo.

The specters dropped us out of the shadow lands and into the spirit realm. We looked at a massive skyscraper from the rooftops several blocks over. This was as far as my specters would go. I cut my arm and let a small stream of blood trickle down my elbow. The blood turned to ashes and became pure energy. Crixus swallowed his share whole. Vago looked at me and told me to keep it. I could pay him back later, I might need it where I was going. I could only be so lucky if it had lethal wards around it. Vago gave me the slightest inclination of a smile, I blinked tired and bloodshot eyes at him, too tired to react. I used forces to levitate to the penthouse.

I looked through the vale and saw Leah, and lots of other people. She looked comfortable with them. I almost smiled, It alleviated some of my guilt for leaving. I dropped the shield around Ollie's pack, gently extracting the chimerical duck. I gave him one last hug. I wanted to squeeze the stuffing out of him, but my arms seemed to lack the strength required. Wyrd also leaned down and we brushed our cheeks to Ollie's soft fuzzy ones. He stirred in my arms. He would wake any second. I lined him up with a mirror and whispered,"Goodbye," as I slid him out of the spirit realm and into Leah's leg. I stopped looking through the Vale. As usual, it was Wyrd that noticed we weren't alone first.

It was an attractive Japanese man. Wow, I bet I looked like hell and trash next to him, but at the moment I didn't really care. Wyrd flipped an aura scan and came back with a question mark. Alright that takes out what we know. Not a changling, vamp, mage, or shifter. WTF was left. Again too tired and too numb to care. That's when the silent Japanese man started talking in my brain. "What brings you to my humble abode mage?"

I answered verbally, not wanting to send my thoughts to this stranger. Logically it was the guy that Leah was working with, but I didn't want to deal with him. "Just dropping Ollie off with Leah, I know she misses him."

"Have you ever considered acting?" I tilted my head. For a moment I had almost forgotten the toll for all my work, the resonance traits that had turned my white forelock the same pearlesent white and purple as Wyrds feathers. The rest of my black hair now looked more like hematite than organic matter. My ears were pointed and my face so much more angular that it was last week. My skin caught the moon light in a million tiny refractions of light made my skin look like someone had rubbed powder fine blue and purple glitter across my skin. My fingernails looked like they were made of rose quartz. I didn't' see the point of masking on this side of the Vale. "You see, I direct Erotica," He continued.

"Don't touch me," Wyrd and I both hissed in harmony. Normally I hide my more tender points, but I was too tired to hide my sharp and jagged edges. The old memories of hiding in the garage, sleeping on the cement to avoid the foster father and his activities. The smell of bad perfume and an ugly olive green couch. I avoided that once, and I would avoid it again. Some part of me recognizes Wyrd's beak has gotten sharper and almost serrated on the sides. This conversation was not going well. I needed to leave.

He ceased his advance and held out open hands, "I had no intention of touching you, you're not my type." I chucked a little bitterly, and he looked confused at me for a moment. I suppose he wouldn't understand the irony in someone saying that to me. He seems to make up his mind on something and he takes a small step forward nodding like he could read more than I let on. I took another step back. "Perhaps you would stay let Leah see you?"

"I should really get going." I start to side step, and feel the umbra solidify around the roof top. I looked frantically for a weak point in his magic a place to escape. Solid and thick, I doubted I had the strength to break this warding. Wyrd has doubled in size on my shoulder. Some sane part of my brain is screaming, not again, a startled cry is all that falls from my lips.

"I'm afraid I must insist." He doesn't sound angry or cruelly confident. He almost sounds sad.

Wyrd floats to the ground between me and this strange Japanese man, rapidly growing in size, "You will let us go!" Already the proportions aren't right for a bird. The legs too long, the back too straight, and most birds lack shoulders. Wyrd's eyes are alight with rage. I'm chocking on panic and sadness.

"Wyrd, please stop." I'm sinking to my knees behind him. My plea bearly a whisper though my tight and dry throat.

"No Caden, Never again! No one gets to trap us, Ever Again!" With talons and beak, feathers and magic, he launches himself at that man. I feel the hum of all my foci alight, everything we have on us. We will break free or die trying. The wild bird throwing itself against the window. Will we break through to freedom on the other side of the window, or will we shatter our skulls and escape into death? Either way Wyrd or I look at it, we win. That was my last though before darkness rushed up to meet me. How many times has death let me go? It has to stick sometime right?

Where to start, where to start ? Whose story, whose viewpoint of this whole lovely debacle would hold the most interest ? Is it the Sidhe male torn from the welcoming embrace of his lovers, his court alliances never fully certain ? What of the young shifter, so recently having given birth to children prophesied by totems long thought dead, her Mate and Alpha more than obviously enraged but also grieving at his inability to reach out to her ? Is it the Brothers, two taken from a place within a place whose true self's are yet unknown ? Just because a face is pretty or the tumble in the sack worth a second or more, it does not always mean the story is theirs. Or is it that of the two Vampires, Sisters by embrace, their sire a deviant who was miles, oceans, and possibly even a realm away ? Lest we not forget their shining guide, or their host whose words seem to come by a whispered stream to the mind rather than vocally. Who gets the floor first and why are their words, their thoughts, even their struggles any more important than one of the others ?

"Absolutely are, and no he usually doesn't"

Seven words, eight if you count the contraction at the very end. About all the time she was offered to respond to the two questions before the red and black haired girl, woman, was back and moving about, her focus never in one place long before shifting to something else than coming back again. The request for protection from the sunlight as well as what was assumed to mean blood assured that Sato had been spot on(as usual) in his prediction of at least two of their new guest's special flavors. Like had indeed known like, something that Celeste would have noticed as well with one of her gentlemanly escorts. Another changeling like herself, another Sidhe in fact. He did not seem at first glance to be one much like the bitch Queen, but she wouldn't be finding herself assuming. Not again. He did not seem angry per say, more a mild annoyance that could very easily broach and border into complex problems if not situated swiftly. She couldn't help but wonder what house he hailed from, his dress, or rather lack thereof not showing any specific affiliations. For a moment, something about him made me miss home, a certain air to him that made me wonder if he didn't know my esteemed(so not) instructor Sevik.

Not to be forgotten was the woman, very young if I had to guess that likely looked the most traumatized by all of this. Her manner of dress as well as her seeming desire to be away from anything here other than maybe the paler of the two Vampires. He had said something about possibly taking her downstairs later and letting her run in one of the empty floors, whatever good that would do. Then of course there were the other two. Sato had been less than detailed in his thoughts on them, in fact he hadn't given her anything at all other than see to their needs as long as they were ones she felt comfortable fulfilling. While it said that he trusted her to oversee much of what happened here, it did slightly leave her rather open ended and lacking the perceptive abilities to gauge people, beings, whatever you wished to call him the way he did.

At least one potential problem was gracefully circumvented, though by nothing of her own power other than a brief conversation with security and allowing the package to be brought up. Their leader, Alexandria, no scratch that, Lexi as she seemed to prefer to be called apparently recognized who the goodies were from, so check one item off the list to worry about. She did seem a bit off in the head, but nothing at all that wouldn't probably be fun to work with as long as she was on your side. Her absolute randomness and lack of pattern was a reminder of someone, though just who it was seemed to be slipping our mind at the moment. Then she was asking for eyes. Googly eyes ? She was pretty certain she hadn't managed to keep the confusion from her face at the request, though it was relatively a simple one comparatively to what could have been asked for. Giving a bit of a nod, she began searching for somewhere nearby that would sell what she was requesting. A message had just been sent to one of the guys downstairs requesting that they go make the purchase immediately when it was observed that Lexi was now conversing about lessons with the girl she'd introduced as Simi. Trying not to be rude and eavesdrop too much, there were a few terms that again had a vague ring of familiarity. Then there was the one that cinched it all. Malkavian. Hadn't that been a term connected to the vampire she'd met briefly from La Crosse ? Tao she thought her name had been.

-----@@-----

I was still laying there on the plush carpeting, deep enough to sink into, especially if i
didn't shift too much. That was laughable. Shift. I had heard Didge's howl of rage, my own trying to reach out to him, my hands struggling to hold him one last time before I was taken. My eyes had split between him and my so newly born children, refusing to go easily. I had struggled, but only as an Ahroun trained could struggle. I hadn't had enough time to train with Didge in his own lessons too have any clue how to properly fight when the spirits, or when fate itself deigned something would happen. So there I had ended up, on the ground under Simi I think her name was. I was also wearing something that I hadn't been when i'd left the Keep, a lot I hadn't been wearing when I'd left. At least it meant I had something with me that was familiar. Running my fingers over the much beloved leather, I swore it even still smelled like her, a thing I hadn't expected after being in the hands of at least one Vampire. It wasn't that I had any issue against them per say, though from everything I'd been taught, they were the enemy. Now I was traveling for Totems knew how long with at least two of them. It wasn't that they were horrible, in fact from everything they'd done so far, especially Simi they didn't seem horrible. Lexi was even the one who had offered to have Mother's armor fixed and fitted so that I could wear it.

It seemed that everything had begun to change, I had lost so much when Morghan had brought her people to the castle. I understood fully that she was lady of the place now and that it was only fitting she had come there to find her father, but it just seemed that her arrival had been a catalyst for it all, most of the all being things I could do without. The only thing I owed her, the singular thing I was thankful for was Didge. It didn't matter what happened here as long as I found a way home, the sooner the better. Why had we fought so much he and I recently ? I closed my eyes against the doubts that tried to come parading in. If I was gone too long would he find someone else to be with, another mother for our pups ? It was the only one that managed to weasel it's way in, but it was enough to set my blood a boil with rage rather than fear.

-----@@-----

Sooooo....This was so many levels of different from anything I'd ever really thought I'd experience. Vanishing from home, then working at the club to make ends meet. Don't think about that. Vanquish fixed everything. Your Sire made it so that scum can't ever hurt anyone again, remember ? At the time he hadn't been anything more than rather unique and interested patron to the club. Why had he helped ? I don't think i'd ever gotten the one hundred percent answer on that one. For what it was worth, we had destroyed the building. All of it had lead to meeting some of the people I was with now. Had lead to me becoming relatively immortal.

I didn't regret a moment of it. I recognized that now just as I had then. It meant I didn't get to see the sun again. So what ? The ocean was prettier at night anyways and I had never taken well to tanning. It also meant that I'd gotten to meet people like Avella and Eve. Or Didge. then there was Nef and her lovely if incorigable mate Frog. I missed him a lot I think. He was always cheery unless he was angry and he was only ever angry if something threatened Nef or Didge and of course now Avella. I had also gotten to explore and expand somewhat with the deity that was calling my body penthouse suit 101 right now. The scene in my my own mind where I had trusted vanquish to do what needed to be done. The scenario where we had been out fighting together to prevent a group of Bitches in red from reaching where the keep had been. Then the desire to help him and offering up his choice of place to feed from and the sex....The sex had proven more amazing than I believed it ever could be.

Then of course, last but never least, there was Lexi. I'd never had a Sister before and I don't think I'd realized that I had wanted, much less needed one. So here she was trying to teach me things about this place that was absolutely insane. At first I'd been lost. Swamped by sensations and sounds and feelings. It was like an overload that I was drowning in and didn't know how to find my way out. Then lexi was there and we were surrounded by bubble wrap and I could breathe again. Wait. I was a vampire, did I even technically need to breathe ? That wasn't important right now, finding the answers to the questions lexi had thus I had was. So I followed her more practiced lead and called out. Let my essence and my thoughts kind of mesh together with hers so that it was stronger, thus farther reaching. That made sense, right ? While I understood the need to show what we were looking for, I don't think the shouting aspect was my thing. Lexi was the bold and the brash out of the two of us, weren't having balancing points a good thing, even here ? We did finally end up going quiet, just a sweet, strangely peaceful floating along the river of never ending chaos as we were left now players in the waiting game.

Then we hit a bump and found ourselves free falling like we'd been dropped over the edge of Niagara falls. When bottom came, there was no hard crash. No violent impact with surface but rather a dive into cool. A submersion into a series of images involving a woman I didn't know. At least she was shaped like a woman should be.

SAD.
DEPRESSION.
DARK.
ALONE.

Hands snapped apart to clap over my ears, both in the network and in real space, thus breaking the link between Simi and I, making my exit a bit more harsh than it likely needed to be. Though on the tail end of my leaving there was a song that began playing. Loudly as if over speakers hooked up to a gorgeous sound system, it stuck to my brain and sunk in. When my eyes opened and I saw Lexi still sitting across from me, I lunged forward without warning and tackled her flat on her back. Like a weird mantra of a broken record playing, I leaned into her ear and simply began murmuring,

*He'd duck and cover, duck and cover
He'd hide his head and tail and four little feet
He'd duck and cover*

"Cracker wanted a quacker ?"

Several heads snapped around at the new voice to join into the fray especially considering it came from, well it came from so low to the ground. For anyone who happened to glance at Leah, her eyes had went wide with a mixture of surprise, disbelieve, and even a fraction of hope. She had reflexively looked around the room but then quicker than expected, more than likely due to the impatient quaking that started, she had looked down before dropping to her knees and picking up what looked like one very pimped out stuffed duck. For those enchanted, which was everyone here, he was more than obviously a chimerical item, companion rather though it was less than likely that everyone here knew the term. From the top of his little head which was done in an acid green Mohawk of epic proportions to the eye patch, spiked collar, and countless other doodads, he was one pimp daddy. A pimp daddy that was quacking in Japanese and making choking sounds as Leah might just be hugging him tight enough to squeeze his stuffing out. She was also yammering at him in Japanese, so quick that it sounded like the energizer bunny on crack.

What was obviously a very intimate reunion was interrupted as all such good moments were by the penthouse, and obviously the building below it trembling quite violently. Leah's head snapped up even as she shot to her feet and carefully set the little creature down beside her. A few things happened rather rapidly then, almost in unison some might say. The armor that you Lexi and your recently embraced Sister Simi had been the only two to see, even if it had been ethereal appeared upon Leah's person, a rather wicked looking bow appearing in one hand as well. Poor Sylvan looked as if he might have swallowed a frog, as her free hand reached out and drew the I-Pad to her. Rapidly hitting several things in, an asexual computerized voice filtered across hidden speakers.

*Security protocol ECKGL 33669 activated.*

The rumbling of the building stopped as what looked like a wave of energy laced with electricity shimmered down from the top of the penthouse to roil down over the building before disappearing. Anyone that had ever been around powerful magics enough to understand them would realize that just because it looks like it's gone doesn't always mean it is. Sliding the I-Pad into a nearby drawer, and closing it securely, her now free hand reached back and drew free an arrow before knocking it, greyish blue eyes keen as she swept the lot of you, one by one. Her gaze was moving towards the portion of glass that was not covered by metal plating that had rolled down when the little Duck finally managed to get her attention. While it was obvious that her main focus was intent on any potential threat, she did look down, the obvious affection she felt for him an interesting twist with the obvious edge whatever had happened put in place. Once he had it, he bobbed his Mohawk crowned head towards the door which Sato was walking towards now, an obviously unconscious body held cradled in his arms.

There was a second where she seemed confused, uncertainty and utter shock at war on her features before she slung the bow and replaced the arrow to it's quiver, a flash of electric blue light swirling for a split second where she had once stood. She reappeared a blink later outside the penthouse with the Tongueless Prince, or Satoshi as he had been introduced, her hands flying in a rather animated and obviously frantic fashion. He merely shook his head before motioning with a gesture of it towards the doors and beginning to walk towards them. She turned and darted for the door, reaching it just a few steps ahead of him before jerking it open. Sweeping back inside, she aimed for the couch just across from where Lex and Brook still were, though Lex had moved to his feet to stand at the back of it beside Sylvan. Shoving pillows off of it, you would realize that Avella had moved to help her and was merely tossing pillows and blankets into a pile out of the way to offer up an available flat surface. Once Sato had laid her down, Leah dropped to her knees beside the couch, armor and all still in place which couldn't have been comfortable. A very quiet whimper, almost nonexistent fell from her lips as she finally got a full look at the state of affairs on the woman laying there. There was a quiet hiss of pain as gauntlet clad hand had instinctively went to rub against her eyes to dry to stop the tears trickling down her cheeks. Instead lowering her cheek to rest against the unnamed woman's chest, her quiet tears watered the threadbare material of the shirt beneath it.

"She's been doing that a lot too, Leah. When she thinks nobody is ever looking, which they really aren't. She said we were coming here on a trip to see you and when I asked why we weren't taking Erro and his Puppy...Well I got really tired after that and fell asleep till we got here. You're going to make her better, right ?"

"We're going to need to have security send patrols out on several planes. She should be the only one that knows where I'm staying but I'm not willing to risk whatever or whoever did this to her following all the way here. The Umbra and the shadow lands at least are a necessity. I'm not sure what others she may have managed to learn to walk in the time we've been apart. I also need to get her cleaned up and changed and bandaged and an IV. I don't remember if we have an IV floating around here or any of the essentials...She looks at least dehydrated and more than likely malnourished. I'll have to prepare a room as well before we move her...."

*Lady, if you would allow, I can help with at least one or two of those. You might wish to see her moved to a more comfortable area first. If you would allow me the honor of carrying your friend so that you can carry your electronics as well as the smaller one. If I had to hazard a guess, he looks as if he might be in dire need of contact with you right now, though you would obviously know better than I would.*

You weren't sure when Sylvan had gotten that close, but even shirtless, his entire mannerisms had changed and you saw what likely other Sidhe, other high court changelings saw when they looked at him. While he may not be direct in line to any throne that you knew of(not that you exactly knew a lot about him), he was exuding mannerisms that were both gentlemanly and honorable, not a single trace of malice nor deception anywhere about his bearing. His voice had also lowered, the cadence both firm yet soothing and not in possession of even a whit of demand. He was obviously offering his services but he was by no means forcing himself, a stranger upon the situation unless it was going to be accepted. While Leah had most likely missed it, absorbed as she was, Satoshi had cast a speculative glance at Sylvan the moment he had started speaking before sweeping from the room and out of sight again. Presumably to prepare a room, though nothing was for certain, and even if such was the case, didn't people like him have hired help for things like this ?

Still looking dazed, but obviously trying to pull herself back together, she was looking up, more than likely to respond when her I-Pad went off with what sounded a rather important alert. Her head snapped around, gaze wavering between it and the remote that was sitting across the room, thankfully the only one that seemed present. The television was more than apparent, a rather impressively large thing that took up a good portion of one wall. Kindly you went and retrieved it for her, Simi moving with you, one arm wrapped around your waste so that the two of you moved in an impressive sort of sync. Lex snagged the other device for her, handing it over near on immediately, his usually mellow, easy features a careful mask right now. Her fingers flying across it once it was in her grasp, she let out several rather unladylike curses before setting the thing aside. Common sense having told you with her look to it that the television needed to go on, you flipped through several channels before she finally made a sound that might have been the request to stop on a specific one.

That might be a commercial that was playing though a rather odd looking one at that. It had all the telltale signs of being for an upcoming show, no for an event, that much was made clear as it progressed. What looked to be pit fighting, various forms of it under the title "Painted Skins" was announcing an unexpected, special fight to be hosted only for the most illustrious clientele. Not only was it a special fight because it was not to the death, but also because the stakes were something other than prestige and cash. T be held exactly a week from tonight, spectators who received invitations were given three days to RSVP. Nothing more was given before the screen filled with static for several seconds before another brush of common sense would suggest that you flip it off once more.

Finally seeming to snap free of the torrent of less than pleasant emotions that were trying to roll her, she reached down and scooped up her Ducky, as childish as that sounded before pulling him in tight against her chest, her need and his obviously both great at the moment. Nodding mutely at Sylvan who immediately moved in and carefully lifted the unconscious woman with a tenderness that was just shy of what you had gotten rare opportunity to see him exude with Morghan, he was moving to follow her when Satoshi reappeared and Leah's eyes glazed for a moment, her body going rigid before she gave a slight, if unsure nod. Motioning for Sylvan to follow him, rather than her, she turned to the rest of you, the armor finally fading away though the bow and quiver were set nearby, almost as if she was somehow comforted by it's physical presence. Nuzzling in gently, tenderly against the chimerical creature for a moment before finally looking up, she cleared her throat a time or two before beginning to speak.

"My apologies for the continued interruptions. Normally things are not so...Not so hectic here. You could consider these turns of events quite unplanned. Dinner will still be going on, though even more less informally than what was initially expected. I can show you to the available sleeping chambers so that you can freshen up or talk amongst yourselves. If you have any questions, i would request that you ask them now that I might be able to field them as best and as quickly as I am able."

The Pagan
July 18, 2013

So many angles and I did like the varied views of perception.

^--^ <.< ~~~~~~~~

No sooner has Simi, jumped on top of me and started to sing the song of duck and cover also commenting on Quackers did the little wonder show up. I was smiling at Simi, hoping my pride in her was shining in my eyes, not the concern for the figure in the dark. Who ever that was was in a world of hurt, and well they didn't make bandages for those kind of wounds. Simi and I looked up from our position on the floor to watch Leah embrace her lovely little pimping duck. I've never seen anything like it before but it seemed something fae, as if it had belonged at the keep. I didn't get time to ponder how exactly to bring it to her attention that it was at least partially this little duck that they were after, the floor reverberated. Simi and I both stood, perhaps a little faster than humanly possible. Leah manifested her armor, the suite we glimpsed her priming earlier was now very solid and very real. The young one kept her cool. She was doing a lot better than I would have at her age. She scanned each of us first, smart girl. It didn't take long for her duckling to point out Seto. A flash and she was outside next to Seto and the unconscious figure. Did Simi realize that was probably the figure from our vision. I stepped back and got out of the way as they entered the room.

Blood warm and fresh and some a little old was the scent the breeze carried in, that and a faintly cold scent like stone in winter. Fluffy stretched sniffing at the seculent smell of her blood, I kicked his nose and then glanced at Simi. If she noticed the alluring scent, Simi hid it like a well practiced vamp. Avella was already moving pillows and blankets Simi joining in. Sylvan was the one who's actions intrigued me. The sidhe was good. Honestly I don't think I could have convinced them to let me help. The scent of blood was almost tingly, like licking a battery, but it was in your nose, like the fizz from soda. Yeah, a vamp to close to the worn out woman may piss off someone who knows what that means. I did my best to stay as far back as I could without looking evasive. A non threatening distance some would call it, in this case the only non threatening distance would be a wall away, but I did what I could. She stiffened with mental communication. I looked away, give them privacy. Sato led Sylvan from the room.

An alert and I helped by starting the tv for Leah. Seemed odd to need to watch something at this second, but meh, perhaps she had madness to her method. The commercial, that was some serious mojo to make it understood. Someone had wooj. 3 days to rsvp, I wondered how that tied into everything, but it could be filed for later. Leah, asked is she could help us. Avella asked about the commercial. I hated stepping on her toes. "A good question, but maybe one we can hold off on till dinner. If you point us to the bedrooms, we can settle ourselves and you can get to you friend faster." I flashed Leah an apologetic half smile. She looked grateful but insisted that she had time to help us. It was Brook who surprised me by speaking up.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Brooklyn

I couldn't help but wonder what Leah's friend was. Leah's tears stirred an old empathy in me that I hadn't felt in years, I wanted to help her at least figure out what happened to her friend. She looked like she'd been thrashed, but what attacks the souls of your feet. Her clothes look like they had rapidly decayed. I was just convincing myself she couldn't have come from the void or the shadow lands as she clearly wasn't what my brother and I are, when Leah mentioned checking them. What other realms she'd learned to walk. What the hell walks mortalis, the spirit realm and the realm of the dead and isn't limited to just that? I almost agreed with Lexi about not troubling her further, but I had to offer. "Do you need someone to check the shadow lands?" I felt Lex give me a glance out of the corner of his eye. It was something to look into and possibly hunt he could suck it as the new saying went.

Leah flashed me a grateful smile and chucked a cell phone at me. They had gotten so much smaller and complicated than the ones we encountered. "If you need to get back in the tower, it's the only number programmed in that phone." I wanted to ask what the hell that meant, but it seemed wrong to ask something that was supposed to be such common knowledge. Much to my annoyance the red and black vamp leaned over my arm and flicked the phone open. I almost shrugged her off when her breasts brushed my forearm. When did women become so damn slutty, and why was that acceptable? I glared at Lex, who was trying to hide a smirk. I could have found the key pad. Fast enough to look casual but slow enough I could follow. She pulled the number out of the contacts list. Hit the green send button and immediately hit the red end button.

"Now all you have to do is hit the green one twice, it's faster if you get in a.. hurry."

Leah looked confused for a moment, "Where are you from that you don't know how to use cell phones?" I opened my mouth to answer, but again, everywhere anywhere Lexi shot back, "It's complicated." Leah nodded and seemed to accept this. With no further questions she looked at me and said Thank you and walked from the room. I headed out through the same elevator we came up in. I hope Lex understood if little miss pointed teeth did not come clean with us an everything she knew about what was going on, I might just strangle it out of her. Realizing on the ride down, that I couldn't actually kill her with that made it a much more appealing idea. Out the garage on foot, security had no issue letting me pass.

It was easy to find a dark alley where someone had been mistreated. I walked down the alley and out into the shadow lands. They had been on the roof, they hadn't come from the elevator so a roof top made sense. I walked as far enough from the tower to make the wards stop tingling. The wards covered the shadow lands for a distance. As Setoshi hadn't been expecting her, I bet she switched to either the spirit realm or mortalis before the shields. I climbed a high tower and opened the access to the roof. It was the second highest tower in this 2 block radius and a good place to start looking. I wasn't expecting to see a specter standing there looking at the pristine white tower. I crouched to see how close I could get. The figure was dressed in old leather armor. If he was this old he was powerful, had to be. It turned and glanced at me.

There was no point in staying crouched, so I stood but kept out of arms reach. I wan not here to tangle with something that old and possibly unrelated. "What are you doing here specter?" I asked, carefully looking around to make sure this wasn't an ambush, doubtful as most specters work alone.

Still only half paying attention to me, the majority of him still facing the tower. "What are you doing here child of the void?" A coherent specter that was willing to converse was rare. What can I do but continue?

"Were you following a girl?" He chuckles at my question.

"If I was it would be my own business, not yours." He wasn't turning towards me, that's when I noticed the small drops of blood on the roof. The specter didn't move. I knelt down, and he stayed frozen looking at the tower. I ran a finger over the still wet blood. I brushed my lips with the bloody fingertip and watched what happened.

The girl stood in font of 2 specters, this and another, clearly shielding the tiny pack she was carrying n her arms. I heard him tell her this was as far as he dared to go. The other one looked at her expectantly. With a fluid motion she shifted the pack to one hand and drew a knife with the other. The blade found purchase on her arm and she sliced the skin open. Deeper than necessary. The Blood dripped to ash and the other one ate the energy. The one before me declined, saying he would be back for it.
he gave her the smallest hint of a smile, but her exhaust and troubled eyes only blinked at him.

>>>>>>>continue Brook continue>>>>

The vision faded and I was back on the rooftop. The specter hadn't moved but he was watching me from the corner of his eye. I looked at the trail of little red droplets that led to the edge of the roof. She hadn't even bothered to bandage it? If she was trading blood to specters she had to know it's value, so why leave it open? I peered over the edge and the view was dizzying. The street below was 5 lanes wide and hundreds of feet below. I have seen shifters and vampires with enough speed launch themselves quite a distance, but this... She shouldn't have been able to make. Could she have flown? That seemed a little far fetched even to me. And yet...If someone told me a young woman was willingly making deals with specters to walk the shadow lands, I'd have said they were insane. Blood doesn't lie though, never has never will. I nodded to the specter who turned to me again. "Just curious," the specter's voice quiet and ethereal, yet set and strong. "Is it worth my time to wait or did she manage to kill herself in that little display?"

I wanted to ask what display he meant, but didn't want to let on how little or much I knew. Had that tiny little thing caused the earthquake that shook the tower. She was short and looked exhausted, and maybe weighted 110 lbs soaking wet, no way. He knew I was aware of her. Was he only following her for a business deal? Specters seldom deal with the living. They can and will attack the living if they need to feed off fear or some sick anticipation of pain. Even if she had perished I most likely would have said she lived. He would be watching, and thus we could trap him if need be. "She's alive," I turned to walk away, but not before I caught that slightest hint of a smirk. I could take the specter easily enough, if his friend showed up, that would hurt. If he had more information we might be able to get it out of him with more time. Of Course, he may have been feeding me shit. I would leave him for now.
I headed back to the tower to tell Lex what I'd found out.

^--^ <.< >.> ^--^ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We poked around a few rooms and people seemed to start picking rooms. I poked my head down a set of white stairs and found a black and silver white room, and backed out. That was so Sylvan's. I caught Simi who seemed to have laid claim and was looking around the hall way. " So, I was wondering if you were thinking about bunking with anyone?" Simi looked a little surprised.

"Um, sorry Lexi, I have my own room and I was gonna possibly sleep with Avella if she wanted..." I cut her off with a hug.

"You are a mind reader Simi," I pulled back, "I didn't think I was close enough to offer, but you two seem to have hit it off. If you need me you know how to feel me out right?" Simi nodded. "Good, I need to find a room, see you in the living room before dinner." I skipped off down the hall. I poked around a few more rooms till I found the one that worked. I smiled. The colors were perfect. The bed was sadly too low to sleep under but the dresser was not, nice high feet so one could store under neath it if space was an issue. It so was not here. I explored a few more rooms till I came to one with the shower running. The bathroom door was slightly ajar. "Hey Lex" I called leaning against the door frame.

"Lexi, what you need?" I smirked a little most guys didn't like you peeping on them in the shower. He didn't sound upset, but he did sound like he hadn't been expecting me. Nice to know I'm not predictable yet.

"I would offer to wash your back, but me thinks you're not in the mood this moment. I can appreciate that, maybe later?" I left it an open ended question, if he didn't want to play he could refuse, if he did want to play, let's just say I'd enjoy that.

"Later, after dinner if it calms down. Did you find a room?" There was that odd tone in his voice that made me raise and eyebrow. I heightened my hearing. His heart beat had increased a bit. Why did that make him nervous? What did he think I was gonna get clingy? Not my gig, but an understandable concern.

"Yeah, man has some serious cash to vary that much, but good taste. Figured after we'd play I'd crash by myself. Been a weird day." His heart beat decelerated normally. Lex didn't strike me as the disappointed type to I figured maybe I'd put him to ease. Lex was nice, he was a very nice rough tumble, but I didn't usually do relationships, not since... that's not important right now. I was glad the glass shower door was wavy and obscured my face for that moment. I didn't want to answer questions about that, now or ever. Focus on the here and now Lexi, you know better. I cleared my throat, not something a vampire often does, I think it tickles. Helps me to smile sometimes or at least get started. "So, two main reasons I'm creeping your shower. A. I like the view." I stood on tip toes as if trying to get a better view, " and 2. I figured I'd let you know what I've got and that's not much but it's something."

I gave a brief synapses. Got a call from an old friend. She didn't know she was calling me but gave him the number of us, to Japan. The rapid fire images that had helped with Eli's description of what needed to be done. I did not mention her name, just that she was a clan mate of mine with a lot of experience with prophecy. We needed to help the tongueless prince do something with the sleeping princess, who may or may not be located. Apparently Mr. Kimura was our prince. This apartment was going to get ransacked by someone looking for the little duck. I left out the vision when I looked at Leah.

"You really think that someone's going to be able to rob this place?" Lex pulled the shower door open enough to look out at me, and giving me a very tasty glimpse of flesh in the process. I might have gotten distracted if it wasn't for the serious look he was giving me.

"It hasn't happened yet, and if it has they aren't telling us, which I wouldn't blame them for." I closed my eyes and remembered. "It was definitely this place, I'm sure of it. I didn't see all the rooms but it gets trashed. But what else are they looking for? Another place broken into before the arrival tonight. That couldn't have been for the cute little one with a Mohawk. Leah's accent is Midwestern, you know like Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnasota, small town USA. Granted her Japanese inflection makes it a little hard to place, but I know that accent. Theoretically her now sleeping mage friend must have come from there. She looks a little native if you get my drift. So there must be something else, are they looking for at least 2 things then. "

"That girl, Caden I think Leah said, is a mage? Are you sure Lexi? No offence, I've known a few mages, but I've never seen one that looked like that. She's pretty..." he seemed to be looking for a word. "Unique," was what he settled on.

I nodded, "She's beautiful, but yeah strange, and yes, I'm like 90% sure she's a mage." Lex turned back under the shower head and I enjoyed watching the water cascade down his well formed shoulders and that perfect ass. Yep, so finding new and enjoyable places to bit on this one. He turned off the shower all too soon and I grabbed a towel. He reached out for it and I jerked my hand back and bit my lip at him. He raised and eyebrow and I giggled and flicked it on his head. He barely had a moment to wrap it around his waist, giving me a nice view for a few seconds, before we both turned as someone opened his room door.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>it's brooklyn>>

I cursed as I approached the tower in the land of the living. I was supposed to call before so security could clear me, but I was going to be damned if I was just going to "hit the green one twice," like that little slut told me. How complicated could it be? One button said menu, one said browser, one green send button, one red end button. A middle button whit no label and the standard number pad, but there were letters on them now also. I frowned. I didn't want food so I forwent the menu button and hit browser. It said connecting, followed by network not available. (no internet signed up for this phone, harder to hack, a nice tip from Caden )Frustrated and at the corner of the tower I hit the green button twice. Leah picked up, "They'll be expecting you Brook."

"Thanks," I replied automatically. I tried to think of something to say to keep her on the phone, but how do you explain that this is your first telephone call, and your voice sounds amazing in my ear. She hung up before I could think of anything. Smooth Brooklyn, very smooth. I debated smashing this fragile plastic phone, but decided against it, get too angry and you get distracted from the potential threats.

Security let me in easy enough, they had to enter the elevator code for me. Why did that feel demeaning? And no one in the main room. They probably went to grab rooms for the night, get ready for supper. Leah was most likely with her friend. I wouldn't want anyone bothering me if Lex was injured. I heard Simi and Avella talking quietly in a side room. If I knew Lex he would pick a central room. I heard Sylvan speaking quietly on the side of one central room so logically I tried the one across. It opened and I saw Lex in a towel, and a fully clothed Lexi, (thank you possibly exsisting god/godz) Not that Lexi's clothing left much to the imagination.

I gave Lex a we need to talk look. He nodded once at Lexi, indicating it was fine to talk in front of her. I frowned. "Right," Lexi drew the word out in the silence. "I'm just gonna head out now then, see you guys at dinner?" Lex smirked, I glared at her. She walked past, I kept my eyes on Lex. I was not expecting the snap of her hand across my ass and the quickly chirped, "Good game." I drew my gun, but by the time I was looking where she was the door was closed. Lex's hand clasped over mine forcing the gun down.

"Brook, were you seriously going to shoot her for slapping your ass?" His eyes focused on mine. It wasn't a question of affection for his piece of tail, it was a question of my reaction. I holstered my gun and shook my head. "Shit and you wonder why you never get laid." Lex walked over to the closet and was trying to figure out if there was anything he could fit into. I gave him a very flat and annoyed stare. When he looked back, "What, if that's your reaction when a girl touches you, I'm gonna shoot her, seriously Brook."

I decided it was easier to change the subject than have the same old argument we'd been having for centuries at this point. "So the girl was traveling the Shadow Lands, with not one but two specters. That's how she was getting in and out. She was turning her blood into energy to feed them as payment." Lex turned and gave me a perplexed look.

"Tough little cookie to walk half way around the world via the Shadow lands." Lex had apparently found slacks and a shirt that fit. "Two specters, you end them?"

"No, only one was there, believe it or not waiting to see if she survived. Fucked up thing, he declined her payment, said she might need it and she could pay him later. If I didn't know better I'd say he was at best entertained by her, at worst he has some form of affection for her. Wait, what do you mean half-way around the world?" Now it was my turn to look like a confused idiot.

"Lexi said Leah has a midwest US accent, figures Caden, Leah's friend, who get this Lexi says is a mage, must have come from there. That'd be what little over 24 hours walking the shadows, how is she not dead?"

"I don't know, she had a weird look in her eye when the specters talked to her, sad, maybe lost, hard to tell from those visions. At least she wasn't being followed that I could tell. Wait, Lexi actually started telling people what she knows, this is gonna be rich." My sarcasm sounded bitter even to me. I headed for the shower, I needed to shower before dinner.

Lex rolled his eyes but raised his voice a little so I could hear him as I got in the shower, "This is what she told me, but sounds like she doesn't have all the answers either." I listened as he explained what the malkavian had said. Molly had only told me and Lex an overview of the different vampire clans. Malkavians, clan of the moon, seers and pranksters, but all of them are insane. We were taking advice and intelligence from a mad woman. This was not gonna end well.

^--^ Lexi

My hand stung a little as I slapped Brook's ass. Couldn't help it. Was probably a bad idea, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I slipped out the door and closed it, I leaned against it for a moment. Sylvan walked out the opposite door. He had not come from the room that screamed it was his, so I assumed he had walked out the Leah's friend's room. "How's Leah's little mage friend doing?" I was sincerely concerned the poor thing had not been in good shape.

Sylvan closed his eyes and exhaled, "And how do you know she's a mage Lexi?" His eyes opened and we started to walk down the hallway. "Did you touch the stick again, I thought you threw it away."

I shook my head, " No it's just..." I paused trying to think of the least offensive way to say it, "She was injured and she smelled really good, all mages do." Sylvan nodded. I quickly and quietly filled him in on what I knew and my conclusions with the duck and the now plural items. Some where in the lecture Simi pulled at me though our blood. I gave her the same synapses that i was giving Sylvan. Sylvan gave me another flat look and just asked "why?"

I gave him a play pout look, "You know Sylvan, I give most people information and they just accept that I'm intuitive. You actually have to ask how or why. I don't have those answers, never have never will. Oh shoot," I let my eyes go unfocused as I concentrated on Simi. "I'm sorry hun , I don't have a cut and dry answer to why she had to come along, I only know that she's going to play some part that none of us can, no one is here for no reason." I didn't realize that it was out loud I was speaking. Simi didn't want to tell her that alone, Simi didn't want to have to restrain Avella if she flipped out. "Save it for dinner then hun, we'll all be there for support then, support for her of course, you already have me." I blinked back to the hall way and back to Sylvan. "On a more serious note who are you sleeping with tonight or are you sleeping alone?" I skipped backwards in front of him, "Whaaaaat, I'm asking everyone," I gave him a wicked grin and stopped outside his door.

"Why are we stopping here?" He looked confused.

"Well this is your room."

He opened the door and looked inside, "And how exactly did you know I would pick a room like this?" Sylvan was already moving inside and towards the wardrobe.

I shrugged, "Damn, tonight that is the unanswerable question," I shook my head, "I guess it just screamed it was yours, like it was already labeled for you." It was the closest thing to and answer I had and I knew it made no sense.

Sylvan nodded as if perhaps he might accept it, "As for sleeping alone no, I never sleep alone." That was about the time I noticed a tiny tinkerbell sized faerie complete with wings flit out of Sylvan's hair. It was tiny it was gothed out. Blink Blink, it was a boy pixie that zipped around the room.

I bit my lip an looked Sylvan up and down, "Why Sylvan, I didn't know you swung that way, I put a little sway in my hips as I accused him of being gay.

He swore once at the closet in the room, "I'm not gay Lexi, I'm just greedy."

I tried so hard to keep a straight face when Sylvan looked over like I had just bored him. I lasted maybe 5 seconds before I was grabbing my sides and laughing hard. "Oh, man that's good I'm gonna have to share that one." It felt good to laugh, today was turning out too serious.

Sylvan smirked and continued to dig through the closet. "Damn I miss the closets at the keep. At least you didn't have to worry about finding clothes that fit." I gave him a confused look. What did he mean by the closets at the keep? Were the closets magical? He blinked back at me. "Lexi didn't you use the closets at the keep?"

I thought about it for a moment, "I slept in one once, but Robin moved my shop so I had my own clothes. Seemed rude to take someone else's when I had my own."

Sylvan shook his head then looked back at me. "Wait so you dress like that normally?"

"What else would I dress like?" Sylvan moved a few shirts but nothing was going to fit him. He muttered something about having to keep what he was wearing on for dinner. Sylvan had a good physique, I sincerely doubted anyone would mind him being shirtless at dinner. So gonna have to use him as a model some day. Maybe a modern bust, for some odd reason I was thinking something more classical than I usually create with glass. I started to walk out the door to give him time to change. "You know Sylvan, if your gonna keep walking around without a shirt you should at least consider piercing a nipple." He looked at me, "What, nice bod is like a nice tree, and some decorations and it becomes a Christmas tree. I walked out and said good bye as I closed the door and headed to the living room.

It wasn't difficult to make your way to the room which seemed to be the gathering point yet again. As you approached, you heard the sound of voices. You could pinpoint Simi's without a doubt, even when humming quietly, you would recognize it anywhere. The faint scent of Lex's preferred cigarette was stronger than earlier so it told you he was there as well, presumably just having lit up. Leah's voice was present as well though quiet and seemingly giving orders for something to be set out.

Upon coming around the corner, you saw Avella on the couch with Simi, her head in your brood mate's lap. The red haired girl was no longer wearing the armor you knew to be her Mother's but rather a dark green t-shirt that must have been silk and was large enough to swallow her frame whole. The quiet humming Simi was doing was explained away by the fact that the Garou female looked as if she were sound asleep. Lex was indeed out there, feet propped up on a sleek glass and metal table that also looked to hold an open bottle of beer. It would seem that shirtless was the style of the night, at least for the males, a very muted conversation between him and Simi, her answers mere nods here and there, or a shrug holding his focus. Leah herself was off to one of the sides which you would notice had been cleared to allow for various tables which were now being filled from covered carts. A few shakes of her head, some quietly uttered words and then finally the two uniformed men bowed, a form of farewell that she returned properly before they were escorted to the elevator and sent away again. What you might clearly overhear was the conversation she was having at the same time on the phone, or rather the tail end of it.

"Yes, we saw the announcement. I'm not sure I understand the sudden changes either, I was kind of hoping you might. He's been so oddly closed off about that whole situation...He just wanted me to clarify to keep your eyes extra open for the next few nights, okay ? If anything odd pops up just let us know. No, no I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job. Have a good night if I don't see you."

The call was ended just in time that she had already tucked the phone away and was pressing at the bridge of her nose, eyes showing a semblance of concern and weariness for a moment before it was replaced by what you assumed to be her usual cheery persona. Sylvan and Brook walked in then from opposite sides of the room, the first still shirtless though his hair did hold that freshly washed look which left you wondering where he'd found the time for that. Brook moved in and stepped to a conversation with Lex, their movements carrying them to an edge of the room. Your aforementioned Christmas tree had taken one glance around the room before moving to where Leah stood and executing a bow that was more playful dashing than actual seriousness, but it did lend a bit of a delighted glisten to her eyes as she dropped into a curtsy that while not perfect would not have garnered her your mentor's most disparaging of looks. Raising her hand to his lips, he brushed them across her skin before whispering something that had her blinking up in confusion before nearly falling apart into giggles.

When finally she looked around and saw that more or less the rest of you had gathered and likely viewed the little show between her and Sylvan, that might be a hint of a blush that blossomed over her cheeks before she cleared her throat and motioned with a sweep of her arm to what very much looked like veritable feast spread out, cold bar style. Numerous salads and delicatessen meats and cheeses. Various types of bread and condiments as well as bowls and platters of fresh fruits and vegetables with an assortment of dips. Far less formal than you might have initially expected but then again, that wasn't exactly a bad thing either. Exchanging another brief word with Sylvan before reaching up and pressing her lips in an absolutely platonic kiss to his cheek, she finally cast a glance back at each of you that had gathered.

"My apologies that it's not more formal or fancy, but it should be filling enough as well as have a plethora of options for those with different tastes. There is a basket of the requested googlie eyes in different colors as well for those who will be dining via kool-aid bags. Your host sends his sincerest regrets that he himself will not be dining with us tonight, but work sees him contained. That and the watching over of someone as he demands that I eat. Something about sitting at a sickbed would only make me sick and apparently I'm a poor patient. He does hope to dine and give proper welcome on the following evening though being as for some of you it is already a bit on the late side. I am more than willing to try to answer what questions I can as long as you understand that some things I will not have an answer to or the liberty to answer myself. Also for those of you for whom the sunlight will not be an issue, I have been authorized to come morning take you shopping that you might have things that fit being as our closets apparently haven't been updated recently."

That last part about things fitting and closets being an outdated model told you that somehow she or Sato had overheard his bemoaning and even if they were peepers at least had the courtesy to do something about the issues had. Even if they were the minor ones. Her look at him was sly but also obviously playful, met by one of his own that was part confusion, part amusement, and part annoyance. Finally seeming to shrug it off, he stepped forward and began filling a plate. Lex followed suit, piling it high enough that you wondered where he intended to put it all. Leah herself filled a plate with an assortment of things before bringing it over to Simi and going to set it down before freezing and turning scarlet at her obvious slip up. When she would have turned almost instantly to walk back in the opposite direction, looking quite mortified, the hand of Simi's not calmly brushing through Avella's hair reached out to catch her.

"You must not spend much time with my Sister's and my kind so there was no insult given, nor any taken. It is apparently slightly rare, but I can still eat solid foods. It will not give me the same sustenance, but I also will not loose it in the next few minutes and be a total party pooper. Perhaps you'd care to fill yourself a plate as well and sit beside me so you don't wilt under the barrage of questions they're all likely to have."

There was a quiet sigh of relief after which Leah looked about for a place to set Simi's plate that she'd be easily able to access it without jostling a sleeping Avella. Her knuckles starting to whiten on the plate, Sylvan yet again proved the knight in shining armor. Sliding up alongside Leah out of the blue and obviously unnoticed, he captured the plate with one hand before spinning her out into a quick flourishing pirouette with the other. Being as the couch was far from small, he flopped down in what would be the middle, the sudden jolting action drawing a half bemused, half annoyed look from Simi as it caused the flame haired girl on her lap to stir. Plucking a rather delectable looking strawberry from his plate, he reached it over and poked it between the lips of a blinking Simi who took it reflexively and chewed it, relishing the obviously cool, sweet taste. It kept her distracted from yelling at him long enough for Leah to walk over and blink in a rather cute, but undeniably owlish fashion at Lex who had already filled a plate with assorted tasty bits for her.

Taking it from him with a grateful smile, she passed by the love seat where she'd left Ollie dozing long enough to scoop him up with her free arm. Tucking him in close against her side, her cheek brushing affectionately against his Mohawk for a moment, she tiptoed over to take her apparent seat on the other side of Sylvan. Taking a moment then to get the little Quacker situated comfortably before feeding him a few tender morsels off her plate which seemed to appease him greatly, he finally curled up against her, the bright green hair of his a definite contrast against her skin and clothing. Though with how much more at ease she seemed with him near, not many would complain. Not many who mattered at least. It was not until the little companion seemed at least dozing if not fully asleep that she finally turned her focus up and back to the lot of you.

Those closest to her would feel the nervousness starting to spike off of her again, though her body language was merely that of a woman enjoying her dinner. You would recognize that Simi had turned her head just enough to peer at her from the corner of her mirrored black gaze, quiet words being mouthed rather than spoken. After a moment or two you saw her brow furrow, as if she were trying something but coming up against an impenetrable wall. Subtly reaching a hand out to you, she linked her fingers through you and you felt that link of blood ping for a second before the tension rippling out from Leah seemed to ease. As it did, you saw Sylvan's arm slip around Simi's shoulder, a companionable embrace that she leaned into, his fingertips brushing along your arm causing a fission of energy to blossom through you along where you were connected to him and the other two back at the keep.

Lex meanwhile had walked over to the cooler which was aligned to one end of the set up tables and popped it open. Digging around inside it, he drew out two bags and after affixing googly eyes to them, underhanded the plastic containers onto your lap, carefully enough not to bust them open. Simi flashed him a sideways grin, before lifting it in a mock salute and freeing her fangs enough to carefully rip into it before draining it and dropping it over the back of the couch into the trash receptacle that you had to imagine was only there for things from dinner. These small, seemingly minuscule interactions had given Leah enough time to compose herself to where she finally seemed ready to speak when the chimerical creature beside her rustled, a quiet sound of discomfort escaping him. Quickly lowering her plate to the ground at her feet, she lifted him carefully into her lap, words quietly falling from her lips, the language unknown but the concern more than obvious.

As she spoke, there was a quiet rustling noise, the hint of a long, sleek body covered in creme and white fur sneaking out from beneath the couch to pull the plate back under with it. Beady little black eyes had flashed upwards at you for a second, it's nose twitching before it was gone from sight again. When you looked back at Leah again, she was frowning, more concern present but a hint of confusion as well. You watched as her fingers carefully searched beneath the duck's feathers before it literally looked like she was opening his stomach. As she did, a small case tumbled out, end over end and would have hit the floor had not that furred body shot out from under the couch to catch it in it's little sharp toothed mouth. Rolling with it, the creature finally came to a stop at Lex's foot. Laying there on it's back, little paws wrapped securely around the object for dear life, Lex reached down and picked what was obviously a him up, long fingers giving it a rewarding scratch behind the ears as he walked both creature and item over to Leah. Once he stood in front of her, the creature released the item to drop into her lap before scurrying up Lex's arm to settle, draped around his neck.

Stepping back out of the way and over to rejoin Brook as well as his plate which was foregone for a cigarette, it was clear that for one the creature was a ferret, and secondly the item might be a scroll case. It really left a mind wondering how the damn thing had fit inside the poor little Duck to begin with. No wonder he had been uncomfortable. Carefully unsealing the end, even as she leaned forward to the table that was sitting there in front of her, Sylvan moved his plate and Simi's off to the far side, just barely remaining on the table at all but making sure that whatever came out of the case would not risk getting damaged by something being spilled on it, not even by accident.

What was set free definitely looked oriental in design, the scroll if it was indeed that comprised of those odd, slinky tiles that certain rolled wall hangings were made of. Once it was fully unfurled upon the glass table top, it was all too evident that there was a jagged tear, a second portion, or perhaps more having at some point been removed. What was also clear after close inspection was that there was no writing, no marking, no nothing on either side. The young Sidhe sighed quietly, her shoulders slumping briefly before she cut a glance over to the Ferret that was peering at her from his lofty perch. After several moments of silence, the little beast dove head long for the floor and landed rather deftly on all four little paws before vanishing again down a hallway. Shaking her head, the tiniest hint of a smile toying at the corner of her lips, Leah pushed to her feet, giving a solid stretch once she was again on them. Giving what quantified to a tired look at the lot of you,

"I need to deal with this. I seem to be apologizing rather frequently this evening, but I promise I will answer what I can, as soon as I can. If you wish to observe my methods, I will not argue it, but merely request that you not try to intercede or interrupt in any fashion."

Out the main gathering room and into the hall, the lot of you followed after her as if she were the pied piper and you her adoring children and rats. Or was it rats then children ? It mattered little as long as you traced your steps to her path and did not stray too far from it's course. Sylvan and Lex had managed to help Simi up and adjust the weight of the still slumbering Avella so that the ex-dancer could carry her back to her room and tuck her in. Leah did slow her stride at that point just enough so that your brood mate would not be left too far in the dust. When she darted back out to catch up, Brook was just barely passing by the door, her hand darting out to pat his shoulder, quick as a pale little whip before darting back to her side again.

"It'll work out. Just like I worked out. You have to be natural though."

Mirrored black gaze reached up to his for a moment, offering a serene smile before she turned and scooted down the straight and narrow to end up back beside you looking a bit bewildered at what she'd just spoken to a veritable stranger. To any look you might have given, any action or reaction, she merely shook her head and pointed to your guide who had stopped outside of a closed door and was reaching down to remove her flip flops. Tucking them up under the arm that wasn't holding the once again drowsing Duckling, it then reached to slip a cord from around her neck, the key at it's end being slid into the lock on the door. Those with superb hearing would hear the faintest sound of the tumblers in the lock being put to work seconds before the door itself went swinging silently open.

It was a process, or so it seemed to enter this specific room. Sandals were set on a small reed mat beside the door, one that looked as if it had been woven either by a three year old or with someone who showed no talent but rather a lot of heart. The key was pressed to her lips then placed, cord and all inside a small box that rested on the other side of the door atop a small mantle piece. The thin placement of wood, barely large enough to hold the box resembled the mat in that it was obviously hand crafted and well...While not the prettiest it had obviously been painstakingly done, perhaps a little too much in certain areas. For any who took the split second offered to inspect more closely, there was a simple, yet stylized letter L worked into the piece itself. It would not be a far leap to say that it had been made by the Sidhe before you herself. You were fairly certain that had she been turned around to face the lot of you, that several people's actions would have caused one of those rare but oh so mega watt smiles to light her features.

Simi and Sylvan both followed suit, as did the small winged fellow that was riding, casually reclined on Sylvan's left shoulder. From Simi, there was small, eclectic but rather pretty bracelet off of her right wrist, and from Sylvan there was a slender, rather delicate band of what looked like silver that you hadn't known he had until that very moment. Even the pixie put in something, his treasure being the world's tiniest eyebrow ring that glistened as if it were crafted entirely out of gemstones or precious metals. Your personal item as well as Brook's were the last two, should he decide to put an item in as well. The removal of your gun as well as it's clips from the weapon itself earned you a rather pleased look from Sylvan and a matching one from Simi as well though she seemed more intrigued by studying the room, her lithe ex-dancer's build thrumming with blatant curiosity. As for Lex not placing an item, he seemed to have chosen to stay outside the room, having taken up a guard like position, not that it was really in any way needed, though it went to how his recognition what whatever she was about to do was best if uninterrupted.

The room itself was beautiful, a mix of several styles incorporated within it's design. It smelled of several scents, though the overall one was cleanliness. Or perhaps purity which left at least one of you wondering how you were able to remain within it's walls. Even though your Hostess never looked up from where she was now standing in her skivvies, elbow deep in a sink hidden away in a corner, the nod of her head at the cushions that lined the outer ring and their purpose was not lost. It could be commented by those who had gotten distracted in their study of the room that she was a quick worker, or for those whose eyes had never left her, not even for a moment, she was simply very focused on her task at hand and swiftly efficient. Drying her arms and face on a towel hidden behind a gauzy drapery, it was rehung(presumably) before a simple midnight blue and smoke grey kimono was withdrawn and slipped into. While it might hide much of her rather artful figure, it did somehow enhance a mother ethereal aspect to her as well. The only time she looked up was once she had picked up the Mohawk toting ducky again and eyed the room a bit anxiously. The anxiousness eased out of her once you caught onto what she was trying to figure out, her bare feet carrying her soundlessly over to where you were.

Upon placing him in your arms, she turned and made her way back to the center of the room where a small circular table rested, low enough to the ground that were someone of approximately her height to sit or kneel before it, they would be able to properly use it's surface. Laying the case at the very middle point of the table, she reached into a drawer beneath it and withdrew what looked like a smell velvet bag. Going through the next few steps by what seemed route alone, or perhaps memory, a set of Tarot was extracted, shuffled in various fashions then cut before being laid in a spread around the object in question. When cards were done being drawn from the stack in her hand, it was placed at the right and just below the center divider of the table. Taking the first card in what was the proper position from her viewpoint, she lifted and flipped it before ever opening her eyes.

The Pagan
July 26, 2013

I watched the by play in the room like someone watches a landscape or a herd of animals. I was there, I was watching, but I was separate from it all. It was like there was some silent but impenetrable wall that closed me off from the rest of the room. Only Lex seemed to be able to freely cross from one side to another, occasionally interacting with the girls but always returning to my side of the wall. I would never admit it, but sometimes I envy Lex's easy going attitude and mannerisms. He never seems to have a problem either running the show, or mingling. Granted, I think he takes advantage of women, like Mollie, but maybe that was a mutual using. I almost wanted to kick myself for not thinking to make Leah's plate, but at least Lex did it and not Sylvan.

The Shirtless Sidhe, had been amusing Leah all night. (Between him and Lex, I was the only male in the room with a shirt on. Granted it was just a shirt that one of the bogans from the keep had called a "wife-beater" and I wasn't fond of the name.) I was pretty sure there was some connection between Simi, Sylvan and Lexi, but I wasn't sure if it was a friendship or some unspoken alliance. Anything involving Lexi made me edgy and a little annoyed. I tried not to glare my anger at Sylvan, but I knew I was failing when Lex told me to chill. Again, I'd never admit it, I was mostly mad at myself. My brother and the Shidhe could interact with Leah with no problem, and I, fuck me, wanted to just couldn't remember how these interactions were supposed to go. Society had changed so much since Lex and I were first trapped. We'd known clothing had gotten less and less, but so many walked around nearly naked. I again tried to stop glaring at the people in the room who annoyed me and settled to watching Leah feed her little duck companion. She clearly loved it, and if Lexi was right, someone wanted to take it from her. That was not gonna happen. I might just be willing to kill someone who made Leah cry. Why was I so defensive of her. Her tiny little friend sounded unhappy. Even I had to raise an eyebrow as Leah, stuck her hand in it's stomach. Both eyebrows were up when she pulled something out of the duck longer that the duck could have possibly held.

The duck was carrying a scroll case with an empty scroll and now there's a long skinny rat running around the room. The creature acted like it was playing fetch with a container that was far too large for it to be playing catch with. Lex had scooped it up and returned it to Leah, but the strange little furry thing stayed around his neck like a woman's scarf. What had Mollie called that horrible thing she wore in the cold. A stole, a mink stole. Maybe this thing was a mink? No I think this was smaller and leaner. Maybe it's a baby. Leah didn't strike me as the type to turn a beloved pet into clothing. Never mention that that thought crossed your mind Brook. Never. We filed after her down the hall. I brought up the end.

I couldn't have been more surprised if the once called Simi had slapped me when she rejoined us. Had I even said two words to her since we'd met, no, no, I would have remembered that. I wanted to ask her what the fuck, but she looked equally confused by her own words. I caught Lexi giving Simi's hand a reassuring squeeze. Maybe it was just a clan thing? I filed it away in my mind for later, who knew maybe it would be useful when I had time to loose my mind. Be natural, It will work out?

They removed their shoes and followed her in. Kinda odd to remove one's shoes just for a room, but I won't question. Everyone putting something in a box. I'm guessing something important. Lexi's guns were mildly impressive, but looked to be too big for the little vampire to handle. I let the others go before me. Lex took his position as guard outside. I raised an eyebrow. Did he want me out or in? Lex, of course knew my silent question and nodded into the room. I could still do a fair amount of damage without needing a weapon, though I was not sure what tribute to place in the little box. I pulled my gun, which was obviously an older model out of my boot and set it next to Lexi's. I didn't bother removing the clip, honestly it didn't fit correctly with that gun anyway. I untied my worn boots and set them on the mat. Reaching under my shirt I pulled out the beaten leather pouch on a plain leather strap. Most of the beading had fallen away or been pulled off. The once soft brown leather was now black and fairly hard. Only Lex and I remembered the original pattern, lost now to ages and times long past. Lex raised an eyebrow at that. I hadn't taken that thing off in over a century, two, three, sometimes it gets hard to remember. I very carefully set it in the box, giving it a nod before I stepped into the room and waited.

I won't lie and say I didn't want to watch Leah's shadow change through the gauzy curtains, but I averted my gaze. I knew Lex wouldn't have, but I'm not Lex. My respect was rewarded by the contract of her clothes and the change to the Kimono. That had to be an older fashion, but it looked gorgeous on her. How can you explain to a woman that more cloth can be more sexy and appealing than too little, without offending her. I suppose I could just explain that I wanted to slowly unwrap her body and learn it inch by inch, committing the entirety of her to memory like a song or a poem of her essence. I want to know you, I want.... I'm getting distracted. Amateur move. I should be on guard if something happens. Focus Brook. You know better than that. I pried my eyes from her radiance and focused on the room. Lex would cover the door, but I wasn't really sure what she was doing, so I prepared to handle anything that might.
